VibroAcoustic Therapy
VibroAcoustic Therapy is the use of low frequency sound through transducers embedded in a mattress or a massage table to help alleviate certain symtoms and ailments.
The client lies on the mat or table and experiences the vibrations throughout the body.
First developped in Norway in the 1980's by Olav Skille , a music therapist,
VA Therapy is now used also in the UK, the US, Japan and Estonia a.o.
The low frequency sine tones ( a pure regular tone without harmonics) used in VA Therapy give an 'internal massage' which, according to Skille, provides the therapeutic effect.
VA Therapy is used for a wide range of ailments including:
- stress
- insomnia
- anxiety
- muscle-tension
- constipation
- circulatory deficiency
- pain management
and more....
The sessions last around 25-35 mins, but about 20 additional minutes need to be set aside to give time for preparation and recovery. Most treatments require 10 sessions , best if scheduled twice a week.
For certain conditions like head aches/migraines, the symtoms may become stronger at first after the preliminary treatments before reducing or disappearing completely.
The type of low frequency sine tone used depends on the client's concerns.
A different tone will be used for the lower back versus the upper back/ shoulders, for example. Certain sequences of sine tones have been developed over the years as well for varying problems like menopausal symptoms. VA therapy has been used for varying conditions from colic in babies ( the baby is lying on the mother's belly during treatment), to Parkinson's and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome
The session can be accompanied by a head/foot massage, by relaxation music via headphones or as well with the relaxing music mixed in with the sine tones - this will be determined with the client as different needs arise.
Christine is using the MULTIVIB mattress developped by Olav Skille, made in Japan, with 10 transducers (speakers) inmbedded in the mattress and the VIBROACOUSTIC.ORG sound massage table with 3 powerful transducers under the table, slightly different experiences but with similar results.
'I experienced Vibroacoustic Music many years ago in Arizona, and it was an unforgettable experience that I am glad to be able to share with my clients'.
